Make Changes as Needed

Progress in succession planning implementation is rarely linear. Periods of slowed momentum or apparent setbacks are normal as roles evolve, staff change, and priorities shift.

When a slowdown occurs, use it as an opportunity to reflect on evaluation data and discuss factors influencing implementation, such as leadership transitions, capacity constraints, or competing demands. Not every change requires an immediate course correction.

Convene your Succession Planning Committee to determine whether changes reflect the natural ebb and flow of implementation or signal a need for targeted action. When data indicate adjustments are needed, consider convening a focused re-planning or re-maneuvering session with leadership and employee input.
