Leadership reviews employee placements together and group similar 9-Box Grid results into three, broader talent pool categories that support development and succession planning decisions. 

The categories are: 

Category: Green 

Where they sit on the Grid:  

  • Stretch; Develop/Stretch; Stretch/Develop   
    • High Performance + High Potential
    • Moderate Performance + High Potential 
    • High Performance + Moderate Potential

Category: Yellow 

Where they sit on the grid: 

  • Core; Trust; Observe/Effective; Develop    
    • Moderate Performance + Moderate Potential
    • High Performance + Low Potential  
    • Moderate Performance + Low Potential  
    • Low Performance + High Potential 

Category: Red 

Where they sit on the grid: 

  • Observe/Dilemma; Observe/Terminate    

    • Low Performance + Moderate Potential
    • Low Performance + Low Potential
